Asterix the Gaul (Astérix #1)
Oh man. I grew up reading these. Facts gleaned from Asterix still probably constitute the majority of my admittedly scant knowledge of European geography and history. Vitalstatistix! Cacophonix! Whoever did the translations was a genius.
Reading so much serious literature lately, this old classic felt like a fun indulgence on a beautiful spring day in the balcony. It took me back to my childhood when I would read and reread the series. It was just as good, I actually laughed out loud a few times and my neighbor turned my way wondering if I had a few screws loose.

As far as Im concerned this is a good news / better news scenario:The Good NewsBetween the nostalgia and the clever wordplay, whats not to like? The artwork isnt as polished as later entries, but its still awesome. I particularly enjoyed the hair puns, and few artists can convey infectious laughter through their drawings like Albert Uderzo was able to. Of course, it helps if you have a bit of general knowledge, to more appreciate the satiric aspects of the comedy. This is the first Asterix book,
Brilliant! This very first volume of Asterix is so very funny, and it is like a taste of what is coming with this series: lots of humour, cunning characters and a crude depiction of some of the best and worst psychological characteristics of humanity!Definitely worth reading this series!Maria Carmo,Lisbon, 6 April 2015.
i have seen this many times as an animated movie. and the comic is much that same.not a bad thing, a very good thing. it's why i love it so much.
Asterix is definitely one of my favorite comic book series of all time. I've only come to like the albums more as I grow older, and seeing as I reread them at least once a year I thought it only right that I take a shot at reviewing them as well. Keep in mind that I read the Swedish editions and might get a few names wrong. I'll try to stick to the English names as much as I can.So, here goes. Asterix the Gaul is the very first album, and it shows. For me the whole thing always felt like some

Astérix le Gaulois = Asterix the Gaul (Asterix, #1), René Goscinny Asterix the Gaul is the first volume of the Asterix comic strip series, by René Goscinny (stories) and Albert Uderzo (illustrations). All Gaul is under Roman control, except for one small village in Armorica (present-day Brittany), whose inhabitants are made invincible by a magic potion created periodically by the Druid Getafix. To discover the secret of the Gauls' strength, Centurion Crismus Bonus, commander of a Roman garrison at the fortified camp of Compendium, sends a spy disguised as a Gaul into the village. The Roman's identity is revealed when he loses his false moustache, shortly after he discovers the existence of the magic potion; whereupon he reports his discovery to the Centurion. .. Specify Based On Books Asterix the Gaul (Astérix #1)

I have read the physical version of this book many times and loved it every time. But it's a comic book, how can it be a good audiobook. I don't know who wrote the script for the audiobook, but whoever did was amazing. I would say that she is almost on the same level as the creators, René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo.(Perhaps now is where I should explain why it only gets four stars. This is an incredibly violent story, and the series gets a bit worse over time. Also we are talking about Gauls andOh man. I grew up reading these.
