The Noticer: Sometimes, All a Person Needs Is a Little Perspective
I continually read this book especially at times when my perspective of "things" gets out of whack. I use quotes from this book often and my all time favorite quote is Everybody wants to be on the mountaintop, but if you'll remember, mountaintops are rocky and cold. There is no growth on the top of a mountain. Sure, the view is great, but what's a view for? A view just gives us a glimpse of our next destination-our next target. But to hit that target, we must come off the mountain, go through
Serendipitously stumbled across this book and made it my first read for 2012. Never heard of it, and knew nothing about it when I started. It presents vignettes of stressed relationships in a small town, and then has a wizened old man appear from nowhere to encourage a different perspective of the problems. Such a good book! I love reading a book that really makes you think. I wish I could meet someone like Jones, he knew all the right things to say without the "fluff! Andy Andrews, author of The Travelers Gift, has created another beautiful and challenging story. The Noticer is the story of a town that becomes influenced and changed by the wisdom of an older man named Jones. Jones is a drifter with perspective, a person who can offer insight to those around him and influence them for the better. Whether its a down and out homeless man living under a bridge, or a suburban couple on the brink of divorce, Jones enables them to look at their circumstances from a
I love the central idea of this book that all you need to change your life is a little perspective. The story is neat, and there is a lot of good advice packed into this little book. The only thing keeping it from getting five stars is that sometimes the wisdom in the story seems forced.
Mix some Mitch Albom, the Five Love Languages, and a touch of the Peaceful Warrior and you'll have The Noticer. A cute little book that is a nice easy read about getting life in perspective. There are some real gems is this book. Nothing earth shattering, just those little nuggets, that if you are smart to take and hold for a while, just might turn your world into a goldmine. My take home 'nugget' that felt like a bit of the 'Jonesing' I needed myself was this one .... "Five seagulls are sitting

A new story of common wisdom from the bestselling author of The Traveler’s Gift. Orange Beach, Alabama is a simple town filled with simple people. But like all humans on the planet, the good folks of Orange Beach have their share of problems – marriages teetering on the brink of divorce, young adults giving up on life, business people on the verge of bankruptcy, as well as the many other obstacles that life seems to dish out to the masses. Fortunately, when things look the darkest – a mysterious man named Jones has a miraculous way of showing up. An elderly man with white hair, of indiscriminate age and race, wearing blue jeans, a white T-shirt and leather flip flops carrying a battered old suitcase, Jones is a unique soul. Communicating what he calls “a little perspective,” Jones explains that he has been given a gift of noticing things that others miss. “Your time on this earth is a gift to be used wisely,” he says. “Don’t squander your words or your thoughts. Consider even the simplest action you take, for your lives matter beyond measure…and they matter forever.” Jones speaks to that part in everyone that is yearning to understand why things happen and what we can do about it. Like The Traveler’s Gift, The Noticer is a unique narrative is a blend of fiction, allegory, and inspiration. Gifted storyteller Andy Andrews helps us see how becoming a “noticer” just might change a person’s life forever.Point Books As The Noticer: Sometimes, All a Person Needs Is a Little Perspective

This book's message has a religious undertone, although the author takes care never to attribute the actions of "Jones" with Jesus. It's similar to the popular Joshua series.Jones is an old man who is of unknown age, race or origin. He finds Andy living under the pier in a small Alabama gulf shores town and proceeds to teach him how to pick up the pieces and become successful in life.Andy doesn't see Jones for years until he returns to the town and be-friends a number of townspeople with seriousI continually read this book especially at times when my perspective of "things" gets out of whack.
